ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH

John Vachon is up there amongst my favourite American photographers of FDR's administration. I saw this photograph whilst researching for an assignment for Unseen Histories, and the visually arresting composition really caught me. The hand-painted signage was a real treat to do, as well as looking for good examples of period blue shirts. Sometimes there's a technical goal to be achieved, and despite this seemingly simple exterior shot, it was challenging to pull off glass and reflections without detracting from the main subject. – Jordan J. Lloyd
