ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH

Hungarian-American photographer Balthazar Korab spent much of his career photographing some of the most iconic buildings of the 20th century. Built between 1957 and 1961, the plant offices for the world-famous Bacardi alcohol brand at Tultitlán reflect Rohe's preference for purity of form and symmetry: a 52-metre-long rectangle of structural steel, with open plan offices floating above a glazed lobby. Mahogany partitions conceal servicing spaces on the edges, adding warmth and texture to the scale of the main offices. – Jordan J. Lloyd

I hope you will understand that architecture has nothing to do with the inventions of forms. It is not a playground for children, young or old. Architecture is the real battleground of the spirit. – Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
